Prices are growing in Catalonia, with the consumer price index remaining at 3.6% year-on-year. According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics on Friday. This is the same percentage as in May, when prices slowed for the first time after three months of increases.
According to data from the National Statistics Institute, food prices in Catalonia rose by 3.8% in June compared to last year, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel costs rose by 4.7%. Prices are also rising in the leisure and culture sector.
In terms of month-on-month growth, the CPI grew by 0.5% in Catalonia, after increasing by 0.3% in May.
As for the country as a whole, the consumer price index reached 3.4%.down two-tenths from the previous month. The drop is due to lower fuel and food prices, especially oil, on which VAT has been 0% since July 1 in an attempt to stem the sharp rise in prices.
The consumer price index is also growing on a monthly basis across Spain, but less than in Catalonia, by 0.4% and after rising by 0.3% in the previous month.
Spain’s core inflation rate, excluding energy and fresh food, the most volatile items in the shopping basket, was 3% year-on-year and has remained stable in recent months.
The data confirms the price stability announced by the National Institute of Statistics on June 28, with a tendency towards moderation after recent increases.
