Summer Nights is reaching its final stage with 10 proposals until Friday, July 26, the last day of this cultural program. In addition, two major events are scheduled for this weekend, such as the Saint Ildivon Festival and the Cannes Mercader Festival.

The first proposal is Cinema a la Fresca, every Wednesday in July, from 3 to 24 July. The film that will be shown this week is “Los Fabelman” by Steven Spielberg, which is somewhat autobiographical. This film will be shown from 10pm on Wednesday 17 July in Plaza Catalunya. This year, all the sessions of “Cinema a la Fresca” will be concentrated in the same place and at the same time. The last cinema screening will be on Wednesday 24 July, with a double screening: the short film “Cura Sana” and the film – which was a big box office success last year – “Barbie”. Don’t forget the popcorn and ice cream… it’s worth it!
And as it could not be otherwise, music will be the protagonist of the coming days. Among all the events, we highlight the Saint Ildefons Festival, on Saturday 20 July, on the Carrer de la Vellanière; the Cannes Mercader Festival, also on Saturday 20 July, but in the Cannes Mercader Park; and the opera concert at the Castell di Cornella on Thursday 25 July in tribute to the great composer Giacomo Puccini.
St. Ildivon Festival
On Saturday 20 July, from 6pm, Carrer de l’Avellaner will be full of activities to celebrate this festival. The first proposals are aimed at the little ones, with a storytelling workshop with Gisela Limona, giant wooden toys, children’s make-up and crafts workshops. Everything will end at 9pm. Meanwhile, music and circus with “Impossible Things” (7.30pm); improvisational theatre with “Fem Impro” (8.45pm) and versions of great musical songs in a feminist version with the band “La Pink Machine” (10pm).
All this programming is free and is part of Summer Nights 2024, in fact one of the proposals that is repeated edition after edition, taking advantage of the shaded spaces of this street in the Sant Ildefons neighborhood.
Cannes Mercader Festival
In parallel with the Sant Ildefons Festival, in the other corner of the city, specifically in the Cannes Mercader Park, a new edition of the Cannes Mercader Festival is taking place, starting at 7pm. This festival is one of the most important in the heavy metal and rock scene, which this year celebrates its 26th edition with 8 bands, 2 stages and of course free admission. These are the groups that will perform in 2024: BISONTE VS. BÚFALO (dark metal), ERYM FACTORY (hard rock), PYCAYA (groove metal), SAVAGED (heavy metal from the 80s), BRAINDAG (alternative grunge metal), BLACKOWL (hard rock), QUIM MANDADO (heavy metal in Catalan) and MEINSTEIN (industrial / alternative metal).
Toto Puccini Concert
On the centenary of his death, Cornella will pay tribute to the great composer Giacomo Puccini in this concert that will take place at the Castle of Cornella, on Thursday, July 25, from 10 pm. Caitlin Redding, Romina Krieger, Lucas Groppo, Facundo Muñoz and Gerasim Voronkov will participate in this musical meeting, one of the most anticipated each year. As always, admission is free.
