Yesterday morning, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a 19-year-old as the perpetrator of the violent murder of another man on Sunday, March 3, in the Campclar neighborhood of Tarragona. The detainee voluntarily presented himself to his lawyer at the Mossos de Campclar police station and was then arrested. The young man took advantage of his right not to testify and is likely to appear in court today, according to Diari de Tarragona. The fact that he presented himself voluntarily could be a mitigating factor in a hypothetical trial.
Upon hearing the news, Tarragona Mayor Rubén Viñueles responded by tweeting to Network X: “Thank you for the wonderful job and always taking care of each one of us.”
According to Diari Mais, the situation requires personal mediation from the mayor. Viñueles held talks with Roma leaders in the neighborhood and with the Moroccan consul to avoid a clash between the two groups. The victim, a 35-year-old man, collapsed to the ground after walking with severe injuries for about 50 meters along the Corniche in the Western District.

According to sources close to the investigation, the autopsy proved that death was caused by stab wounds. The investigation is still open to determine whether the weapon was used in the crime, as several witnesses heard gunshots. This incident is the second such death in the neighborhood in just six months, a fact that has put the neighborhood in the political spotlight.
A week of tension in the neighborhood
The crime generated a climate of tension and protest in the neighborhood over the past week. Hundreds of residents went out several nights to demonstrate in the streets of Kambclar, demanding more security in the area. The latest protest was taken to the Tarragona courthouse last Friday morning.
The organizers, neighbors and relatives of the victim confirmed that this mobilization would continue every evening in the neighborhood until Mossos de Escodra arrested the perpetrator of the crime.
