The Tarragona International Theatre Festival kicks off with the screening of La Gioia. FITT – The new drama was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by the new Minister of Culture, Sonia Hernández, without making any statements to the media. In the morning, Hernández made an official visit to the Tarragona Town Hall where he signed the Book of Honour and held a short meeting with the city’s mayor, Rubén Viñales, and other councillors of the municipal government.
In the afternoon, the atmosphere was already hot on the Passeig de les Palmeres, a few meters from the Tarragona Theater, where the opening took place. The first show of the festival began with the play “Lost Dog” by the Cal y Canto theater company in the Jardins del Camp de Mart with sold-out tickets. The Burgos company offers a total of seven jobs distributed in two shifts: Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 12 noon and 5 pm.
As night fell, the audience enjoyed “La Gioia” by Pippo Delbono, the opening act of this 11th edition. The show was presented at the Tarragona Theater with more than 93% capacity. With the aesthetics and magic of the circus, Delbono, one of the Italian artists with a more personal creative world, created a show dedicated to joy, a feeling deeper than joy.
He used to go through the FITT of Radio Tarragona, where he assured that the audience would not remain indifferent with a mixture of pain, suffering, happiness and enthusiasm. He said that it was a true ritual at the roots of the theater that could not be translated into any language.
Once the show was over, Argentine singer Belén Natali continued the party on the Passeig de les Palmeres, the festival’s hub in this edition, with her repertoire from the Jacarandá EP of reggae style and sound system culture.
Entertainment is also guaranteed on the streets by the itinerant shows “Les pompiers” and “Les fotografiers” offered by the Latal company. Jordi Magdaleno is one of their members.
During these four days, the festival offers thirteen shows with a total of 24 events and twelve companies, in addition to popular dinners, workshops and activities for professionals.
Among the works are “El Tsaso”, from the Basque country’s itinerant drama; “Macho grita” by the famous actor Alberto San Juan, or “Club Bürstner”, from the company DelsAltres, from Valencia, which can be seen at Shelter 1 of Moll de Costa.
Programs include dinners, theatre wines, storytelling as an in-house production, professional meetings and a contemporary creativity lab.
