Math, physics, science and computer science “childish” subjects? “Not even for a dream”: a video message from the girls of the Marconi Institute against public appearances, traditions and gender stereotypes: “Numbers, laboratory and research are our passion. The video was shot by teacher Carmen Oliva at the end of the last school year and submitted to a call for proposals, Digitarsi, promoted with the Bracco Foundation: “A request – explains the teacher – to create a product on the themes of mentoring, the relationship between girls and the so-called stem disciplines. We passed the word on to them.” In recent days, the good news: Marconi is among the winners, “We will get a cash prize for the purchase of items – so Oliva – we still don’t know how much. Meanwhile, the two girls and I have already received a gift: a book and a kindle each.” Here are the students Martina Bonocor, Aurora Cerioli, Veronica Costa, Alicia Gallioni, Maria Invernessi, Alicia Portelli, Gia Sartor and Sofia Squilacci. In the video, one by one, they tell about their irrepressible passion for science or technology (students from HSIT and from ETES), living from the Marconi laboratories, in front of microscopes, fossils and monitors.

Some are in their senior year, and four of them dropped out in June. The scientific approach, for all, in the blood: “I have always approached life in a rational way – so Alicia in the video -: Science, understanding how our bodies or minds work, helped me know myself.” Sophia dreams of becoming a surgeon: “In middle school, I already knew science was objective, I love schematic thinking, and a big help in life too. There is sexism and science: but no one can stop us from doing what we want.” And so Gaya who will study physics and astrophysics, Maria, Veronica and Aurora is ready to deal with databases and cybersecurity, Martina and all the other heroes of the film. Which proudly concludes: “Our Girls: Our Future.”
