Palma protests again today against tourist saturation

Palma will host on Sunday the demonstration called “Less tourism, more life” against megatourism, which has been joined by a total of 111 entities, including environmental groups, neighborhoods, labor unions, education and culture.

The demonstration, under the slogan “Change the route, set limits on tourism”, will start at 7.00pm in the Ses Estacions de Palma park and will run through some of the city’s most central and “touristy” streets – Avenidas, Carrer Sant Miquel, Plaça Major, Carrer Colom, Plaça de Corte, Carrer Palau Real, Conredor and Plaça de la Reina – until it ends in Passeig del Born.

The main demands of this mobilization are access to decent housing, an end to real estate speculation, gentrification and eviction of neighborhoods, improved public services, decent and well-paid jobs, preservation and renewal of natural spaces, as well as respect for human rights, individual culture and language.

With Sunday’s rally, the “Less Tourism, More Life” campaign aims to defend “the need to set limits on tourism” and “abandon this monoculture of tourism.” “We are not asking for a type of tourist,” the platform says, but for “a fair and equal economic model that addresses the current economic and social crisis.”
