Typhoon Shanshan has already entered southern Japan, and forecasts continue to plot its path from the south of the archipelago to its north, which is why its effects could be widespread.

Shanshan is still entering as a Category 2 typhoon, which means sustained winds of more than 170 kilometers per hour and gusts of more than 200. It made landfall across the small coastal city of Makurazaki in southern Japan, in Kagoshima Prefecture.
