Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, TMZ reported yesterday. The split has been in the headlines for some time after the couple left behind “evidence” about the crisis in their marriage.
Their story is almost like a movie. They met in early 2002, while filming the movie “Dangerous Liaison.” Lopez was married to dancer Cris Judd at the time. That’s when Bennifer – the name by which their relationship is known – began. They got engaged, and in September 2003, a few months before the wedding, they decided to postpone it, due to “excessive media pressure.” The following year they called off their engagement and broke up.
Everyone went their own way, but, as they say, where there is fire, there is heat. After 20 years, the couple met again and gave love a second chance. On July 16, 2022, they celebrated an intimate wedding in Las Vegas.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly. The actor was immersed in his Hollywood projects and Lopez was preparing to return to the stage, which ended up being bittersweet. That sometimes love doesn’t conquer all. In October 2023, a video surfaced on social media in which Affleck didn’t look entirely happy about his public appearance. The long faces and serious gestures contrasted with her eternal smile.
By mid-2024, the couple were living separate lives. Rumors attribute the split to the fact that they have different outlooks on life. He prefers to keep his privacy away from the spotlight, while she is comfortable with the media attention.
After moving out of the house they lived in, Affleck rented a property near where his children with actress Jennifer Garner live. J. Lo, on the other hand, was on a trip to Japan with her two children with Marc Anthony and then spent the summer in the Hamptons (New York). And even last July, he celebrated his 55th birthday in style, at a party that Affleck did not attend, as he was still in Los Angeles filming The Accountant 2.

Now the divorce is official. Lopez was the one who filed the paperwork in a California court months after their split. According to TMZ, she personally filed the legal document (without a lawyer), which sets the separation date as April 26. That was shortly before the Met Gala, which she attended without Affleck.
At the moment, the divorce process has started, and each of them is living his life on his own.
