• With the bill approved today by a large majority in the Senate, Italy, first in the world, reaffirms its opposition to artificial food by choosing to protect its citizens and products and assert itself as a country of well-being and food safety. To try to view it as a measure against research and science is outrageous. We are the first to support research, but it aims to improve the health, conditions of the primary sector and people’s lives, not research that would only serve the economic interests of lobbyists or multinational corporations. We are waiting for science to reassure us about the safety of cultured foods whose health effects are still unknown. In the meantime, it is right to resort to the principle of precaution, both in the interest of the citizens and in the protection of our agro-food sector, which is based on territory, tradition, precise identity and extraordinary quality: characteristics that have made Made in Italy famous and sought after all over the world.
