These second two weeks of July are full of proposals linked to Angel Guimera, as the date on which the playwright who spent part of his childhood in Vendrell and who gave meaning to the Guimera Year approaches is approaching: on July 18, 2024, next Thursday, it will be 100 years since his death.

For this reason, Vendrell, the city that saw his growth and training as a poet and playwright, and Barcelona, ​​the city that saw his death, would be responsible for implementing the most institutional aspect of the astronomical calendar.

Ángel Guimera died during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, but once it ended, on July 18 of each year, it became a tradition to bring flowers to his grave to remember and honor him. So, in memory of this custom, a floral offering will be made next Wednesday, July 17, on Ángel Guimera’s grave in the Montjuïc cemetery in Barcelona, ​​sponsored by the Vendrell City Council and the Catalan Literature Foundation. It will be at 11am and will be in collaboration with the actors Carme Sansa and Enric Magó.

The following day, July 18, it will be Vendrell’s turn, with a floral display to the statue of the playwright at the crossroads of Carrer de Roda and Avenguda del Peix Penedès.
