FIGC-Lega, we move towards the Assembly to amend the statutes: the vote on November 4 has been postponed

There is no agreement between the two parties. Minister Aboudi is absent. The meeting already scheduled must be turned into an extraordinary meeting, and we are heading towards the election of the new Italian Federation President in January 2025.

There is a disagreement between the Italian Football Federation and the League. There is no agreement, no immediate readjustment of the weights (in view of the Molli amendment), within the professional quotas, by recourse to a decision. There is nothing to be done, the League demands a change in the statutes. “After checking everyone’s positions – announced President Gabriele Gravina at the end of the meeting -, even without talking about the specific requests and figures, I will present to the Federal Council, already scheduled for Monday 29 July, the possibility of holding an Assembly for the amendment of the statutes to encourage in-depth reflection in the coming weeks and I hope that it will be fruitful on the changes to be implemented”.

Table

The summit aims to reach an agreement on the new restructuring of the weights in view of the upcoming federal elections on November 4 in light of the Molli amendment. The political party was absent (the Minister of Sports and Youth Andrea Abodi, after several discussions with the parties concerned, ultimately preferred not to participate) but the other federal parties were present at the meeting with Lorenzo Casini, president of the Italian League. A, Mauro Palata, the first team of the Lega B, Matteo Marani for the Lega Pro team, Giancarlo Abete for the Bundesliga, Umberto Calcagno representing the players and Carlo Pacifici for the refereeing component. The meeting, which started around 9.30 am, saw Giancarlo Abete, president of the League, leave after an hour. “I have already said that I will leave before – his words -, I already said it last week (he met with Gravina on Friday, ed.). I am confident of reaching a positive outcome to this matter. What if they ask us to reduce the quotas? No”.

Reunion

The meeting ended after about two hours. The first to come out, clearly after the aforementioned Abete, was Casini: “In a positive and calm climate, there was a feeling of the need to move forward towards a reform of the statutes that would lead to a different weight of professionalism that, as we said, must be of the 50%. A stronger and better represented Italian league within the federal system is beneficial to everyone. It is the beginning of the process, and the Italian league has confirmed what was already highlighted in the assembly: we are moving towards the need for a reform that sees greater autonomy for the leagues from an organizational point of view, the organization of the leagues and of the components. In addition to a special status for the Italian league with regard to the decisions that concern it. So we are approaching an extraordinary assembly or at least this is the path, we will see it on Monday 29 July during the Federal Council. Satisfied? And as long as the reorganization that goes towards these three points is getting closer concretely, yes. There was also talk of models such as the English and Spanish ones, but it is clear that Italy must move towards a more modern and efficient system, capable of achieving results in all aspects”.

New times

The electoral assembly scheduled for November 4 will most likely be transformed into an extraordinary assembly, and therefore at least 60 days must be allowed for the electoral assembly to take place, it is clear that the new president of the Italian Football Federation will only be in January 2025: everything will be decided next Monday, in the Federal Council already scheduled for days.
