Russia records more than 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 in 24 hours for the first time

Russia recorded 1,002 Govt-19 deaths in 24 hours on Saturday, surpassing the 1,000 daily death toll for the first time since the outbreak, as the country’s vaccination campaign has stalled.

The official government figure shows 1,002 deaths and 33,208 new infections, the third consecutive day of recorded deaths and new cases.

Only 31% of Russians are fully vaccinated against the outbreak, according to the special website Kokov on Saturday.

Although many regions have reintroduced the need to issue QR codes to access public spaces, the virus is spreading due to limited government health restrictions.

The Kremlin, eager to protect the economy, refused to impose significant restrictions nationwide, while considering the low-level anti-Govt vaccine to be “unacceptable.”

“Our main goal is to find the right balance between breaking the chains of pollution (…) to keep the economy running, people continuing to make money and maintaining conditions,” the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Weighing the popularity of the authorities, the Russians have been facing a decline in their quality of life since 2014.

The Kremlin this week promised that the medical system could accommodate a growing number of sick people.

Russia has gained experience since the outbreak and “all medical infrastructure has been mobilized,” Peskov said Thursday. “Today, there are more treatment technologies, more clinical monitoring and more infrastructure skills.”

Authorities are blaming the behavior of the Russians. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that despite the availability of several national vaccines for “population behavior and vaccination” was not enough for the current situation.

In addition to the low vaccination rate, poor virus compliance facilitates the spread of the virus.

More than half of Russians do not plan to get vaccinated, independent polls show.

Since the outbreak, Russia has officially recorded 222,315 deaths, despite accusations that Europe’s highest number underestimated the size of the eruption in the country.

Rosstad Statistics Institute has a wide range of corona virus-related deaths, reporting more than 400,000 deaths.
