NBA Power Rankings: 1/10/11

Basketball fans, it’s time for another edition of power rankings here on STS, and after a great week of action in the NBA (which concluded with a possible game of the year candidate in Portland last night), it’s time to see where the teams stand heading into this week.

So without any further ado, here’s a look at the rankings: Continue Reading

Anderson Varejao Out for the Rest of the Season With Ankle Injury

Seriously, what else can you say here? If you read the headline above, and are a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, what do you really say?

Yes, it’s true. Anderson Varejao, one of Cleveland’s most valuable players (both on the floor and from a trade value standpoint), will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his ankle. Continue Reading

Chauncey Billups to the Nets Probably Won’t Happen

In what has started to become a weekly thing, the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes has taken another turn. The discussed participants this time around are the New Jersey Nets, who have been trying to find a way to get Anthony for a while now, and the Detroit Pistons, who are clearly looking to change things up within their organization.

The whole deal would center around the Nets getting Anthony, and while that would be a huge land in and of itself, that wouldn’t be all that New Jersey would be getting. Continue Reading

Celtics-Bulls, Magic-Mavs Highlight Saturday Schedule in the Association

We’ve got several great games on tap for tonight, with an Eastern Conference showdown between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics taking place, as well as a big matchup in Dallas between the Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks. Let’s take a look at tonight’s schedule in the Association.

Indiana Pacers (14-19) at Atlanta Hawks (24-14) – 7:00 PM ET, Regional

The Hawks have surprised me lately by actually shooting good shots. They won a big road game at Utah the other night, and are clearly the better team in this matchup. Indiana has struggled after starting well, and it’ll be another tough task for them here. Continue Reading

Last night was one of the better nights of the NBA season thus far, with a lot of close games taking place throughout the Association. The Spurs had their 12 game winning streak stopped by the Mavericks, the Jazz once again came from behind to knock off the defending champions, Carmelo Anthony hit a game-winner to beat the Bulls, and Russell Westbrook scored 43 to lead the Thunder over the Pacers in OT. Whew. It was an action-packed, to say the least. Continue Reading

Neither of the games on Thanksgiving were all that impressive, although it is important to note that the Los Angeles Clippers are on a two-game winning streak. I’m not sure if that means the Lakers should start shaking in their sneakers, but hey, at least it means the Clippers are improving. Continue Reading

After a few quarters of last night’s games, there were some scores that really caught me off-guard. Minnesota was up big on San Antonio and the Suns were drilling the Bulls. However, we should have known what would eventually happen, as both the Spurs and Bulls came back to win. Continue Reading

Will the Kings Trade for a Point Guard?

Before the season started, I honestly believed that the Sacramento Kings could make a push to get the final playoff spot in the West. Perhaps it was optimism for the new frontcourt that they created in the off-season by drafting DeMarcus Cousins and bringing in Samuel Dalembert. Perhaps it was the expectation of Tyreke Evans completely dominating defenses in his second year in the league. Continue Reading
