Spurs Sign Danny Green
The San Antonio Spurs have signed former UNC standout Danny Green for the remainder of the season. Green played for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2006-2006 and is the only player in ACC history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists, 150 three-pointers, 150 blocks and 150 steals. He also played more games (145) and had more wins (123) than any other Tar Heel before him. His team won the NCAA Championship in 2009, the Final Four in 2008 and the Elite Eight in 2007.
As the NBA season heads into crunch time, we have started to see solid activity in the D-League. NBA teams who are either battling the injury bug or potentially looking for something new are looking to the D-League to help them do so.
For today’s report, I’ve highlighted a few important news items in the world of the D-League and included a list of all the D-League Call Ups and Assignments so far this season. Enjoy!
Yesterday represented an important day in the D-League season, in that it was the first day that NBA teams were able to sign D-Leaguers to ten-day ‘call up’ contracts. This is the shot that many (if not all) D-leaguers are hoping to get a shot with the Association.
So the question is who will get their first taste of NBA action (which you may or may not know, is FANtastic).
Thanks for all your support on last week’s post. Here’s another look at the D-League as we head into the last couple weeks of December:
Antoine Walker to Have a Sort of Homecoming
I’ll get into this in better detail below, but one of the big games this week features Antoine Walker’s return to the East Coast as the Idaho Stampede play the Maine Red Claws. The Red Claws are affiliated by the Boston Celtics, which will give Walker his best opportunity so far to impress. Unfortunately, Walker has had to rattle of some game rust so far in his comeback effort.
It’s my first post on Saving the Skyhook and I’m thrilled. I’m very excited to see what we can build here, and I’m looking forward to your feedback.
Once a week, we’ll take a look at the news and notes from the NBA D-League and keep you up to speed with the relevant story lines. One cool thing about the D-League is that every game is available in streaming format through NBA.com/dleague. We’ll also point to 2-3 games a week that we think you’ll enjoy.
