Chauncey Billups to the Nets Probably Won’t Happen

In what has started to become a weekly thing, the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes has taken another turn. The discussed participants this time around are the New Jersey Nets, who have been trying to find a way to get Anthony for a while now, and the Detroit Pistons, who are clearly looking to change things up within their organization.

The whole deal would center around the Nets getting Anthony, and while that would be a huge land in and of itself, that wouldn’t be all that New Jersey would be getting. Continue Reading

Ladies and gentlemen, another week of NBA action is upon us, which means more power rankings! And now that the new year is here, it’s time for some teams to make their move if they want to be contenders come May, and it’s time for others to start rebuilding their roster and prepare for the future.

Well the Spurs-Lakers game last night was rather anti-climactic, as the Spurs took it to the Lakers down the stretch, and came up with the 97-82 win at home. There seems to be some serious problems with this Laker team right now, and they better figure out a way to turn it around quickly. It’s still early in the season, but it’s clear that Kobe Bryant is not happy at all with the way this team is playing, and when your star is upset, that’s not good for anyone in the Laker organization. There were some very intriguing games around the Association last night, with some rather interesting finishes. The Pistons forced overtime against the Bulls after some big shots by Tracy McGrady, but lost 95-92. The Clippers almost pulled a Clipper against the Suns, but Eric Gordon‘s steal late let them hang on for a five-point win. And the Sixers somehow came back to beat the Nuggets in Denver, which was undoubtedly one of the worst losses of the team for a Nuggets’ team that seems to be heading in the wrong direction. The surprise of the night in the Association last night was the Milwaukee Bucks going into Los Angeles and taking it to the Lakers in the second half. The Lakers certainly didn’t look like a championship team, as their defense was just awful. But you also have to give credit to Bucks’ backup point guard Earl Boykins, who stepped his game up big time in the absence of Brandon Jennings. The Bucks are starting to look like that playoff team that a lot of us anticipated they would be before the season started. Continue Reading

If you didn’t believe in the Dallas Mavericks before last night, chances are your opinion changed a little bit after they went into Miami and knocked off the streaking Heat. Before the season started, I thought Dallas would be the same kind of team they’ve always been, however, they seemed to really be focusing on the defensive end, and that’s paid dividends in their success so far this season. While they obviously have to go through the likes of the Spurs and Lakers to get to the NBA Finals, there’s nothing so far that has shown that they couldn’t beat either one of them in a playoff series. I have no idea how the Miami Heat won that game last night in the nation’s capital, but hey, it goes down as a win. Of course, not many people expected the Wizards to even be in the game since they traded away Gilbert Arenas earlier in the day. But it was a gritty performance by Flip Saunders‘ squad, and adding a scorer like Rashard Lewis should help them. Make it 12 straight for the Heat now, and they are reaching their stride at the right time since they head into Los Angeles on Christmas Day to take on the Lakers. That one could be interesting. If you stayed up late last night, there was a great game in Denver between the Spurs and Nuggets, which saw Manu Ginobili once again make a big shot to fuel his team to victory. There’s a reason why the Spurs have the best record in the NBA, and that’s because they have veteran players who can step up in the clutch when they need them to. Even if it’s not Ginobili, it’s Tony Parker or Tim Duncan. We might have underestimated the Spurs to this point, but it’s time to realize that this is the best team in the NBA. Continue Reading
