When teams struggle, its players can become frustrated. That is exactly what has happened in Milwaukee. The Bucks are 7-27, owners of the league’s worst record. They have lost three consecutive games and are 21 games back of first place in the Central Division.
On Saturday night, after their 116-100 loss to the Phoenix Suns, teammates Gary Neal and Larry Sanders engaged in a back-and-forth that was overheard by reporters.
While Neal is a reserve who signed a two-year contract in the offseason that pays him $3.25 million annually, the Bucks signed Sanders to a four-year, $44 million contract extension last summer, making him the highest paid player on the team. The 25-year-old, however, has played in just eight games this season after suffering an injury at a bar fight on November 3, something Neal brought up when he said:
“I earned my money. Why don’t you try it?” said Neal to Sanders.
Milwaukee has admitted that the relationship with the guard has not worked out as originally planned, and are now actively shopping Neal. According to reports, the Bucks “will do everything they can” to ship Neal off by the February 20 trade deadline.
Neal, 29, is averaging a career-best 10.4 points while grabbing 1.8 rebounds and dishing out 1.6 assists in over 20 minutes per game.
