Nick Young recently opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers but hopes to sign a multi-year deal with the team. As he told the Los Angeles Daily News‘:

Just more years. I believe I deserve more,” Young said Wednesday in an interview with this newspaper. “That’s up to my agent to do that for me. The Lakers are home, but things could happen. With free agency this year, it’s going to be crazy to see.”

Lakers fan, Ahmed Binsulayem, has taken Young’s free agent decision quite seriously as he has paid for an advertising campaign consisting of billboards, billboard trucks and bus stop ads to persuade Young to stay with the Lakers. From 7 Days in Abudhabi:

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre is well known for his commitment to his favourite basketball team – the Los Angeles Lakers.

And Bin Sulayem has launched a second personal advertising campaign to to try and get shooting-guard Nick Young to stay in LA for another season.

Titled ‘STAY’, the 2-week long outdoor advertising campaign which launched on 21 June, it includes advertising trucks, bus stops and billboards and surrounds the Lakers’ Staples Stadium.

Commenting on the initiative, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said: “These campaigns are not just about creating noise they are all about supporting legends that deserve recognition for their continuous drive that inspires and exceeds expectations of millions of fans and supporters every day. In my view, Nick Young epitomises exactly that and it would be amazing to see him in action at LA Lakers next season as well.”

In 2013, Bin Sulayem took out a full-page advert in the Los Angeles Times about Kobe Bryant

The ad campaign is definitely noticeable:.

Binsulayem explained more about the ‘STAY’ campaign and his 2013 Kobe Bryant ad to Emirates247.com:

“These campaigns are not just about creating noise they are all about supporting legends that deserve recognition for their continuous drive that inspires and exceeds expectations of millions of fans and supporters every day. In my view, Nick Young epitomizes exactly that and it would be amazing to see him in action at LA Lakers next season as well.So much has happened in a year particularly for those who kept embracing challenges, saw the opportunities ahead and never gave up. Around this time last year I also placed an ad in the LA Times supporting legendary Kobe Bryant after his Achilles injury. That ad has a lot to answer for – not only did it indirectly lead to Kobe Bryant later visiting Dubai to support DMCC’s Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness weekend – it is also proof of how Dubai’s determination to succeed on the global arena generates results. Last year the same ad featured a Dubai Expo 2020 bid candidate logo, take a look at this year’s campaign and you will see that Dubai succeeded in that – we will be hosting the Expo 2020. It just goes to show that anything is possible with hard work, determination and a ‘never give up’ attitude – much like the spirit of Dubai and the LA Lakers team.”

This is the second billboard that is up in Los Angeles asking Young to stay with the Lakers, as the Lakers blog, Lakers Nation, raised money to get the billboard below:

It is obvious that Lakers fans love Young, now it is up to the Lakers management to keep him in the purple and gold.

Actually, this ad campaign is all about putting Binsulayem’s company’s name on billboards in connection with the Lakers. Cheap, cheap.
