Doc Rivers Reacts to Donald Sterling Comments

Doc Rivers spoke to the media on Monday afternoon, addressing the controversial Donald Sterling story. Below are some of the statements we found to standout from the classy Clippers head coach.

On difficulty of the situation:

“These last 48 hours or more have been really hard for our players and everyone.”

On fans:

“From our fan’s standpoint. Being here since landed, the fans have been amazing. We need them. I can tell you that.”

On Chris Paul:

“It is more pressure on him. But really it’s more pressure on all of them.”

On Game 5:

“It’s being discussed whether or not a player will address the crowd before Game 5.”

“I hope (the arena) is packed and they (the fans) are cheering for us, for the players.”

On players:

“They will grow from this. We live in a make-believe life in sports. …Right now this is real life, and we have to deal with it.”

On the NBA:

“I really have a lot of faith in Adam (Silver) and the league.”

On his own family:

“This is personal for them. This is not personal as far as Clippers and Donald Sterling, this is personal for them.”

On himself:

“I’m holding up pretty well. But yesterday I struggled. I slept maybe 45 minutes.”

On future with Clippers:

“I don’t want to answer that question. I don’t know. This just happened.”

We also learned during the conference call that Rivers passed on an opportunity to speak with Sterling. The aftermath of the owner’s comments are just beginning, and it will be very interesting to see what the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver say and do, which may be revealed during Tuesday’s press conference.
