At 7 feet tall, Andre Drummond is a giant next to the common bobblehead doll, which are usually only 8-10″ inches tall. But thanks to FOX Sports Detroit, Drummond and his fellow Detroit Pistons teammate Josh Smith, will be looking eye to eye with their bobblehead doll, as the cable channel has commissioned life-sized versions of the players. From Crain’s Detroit Business:
As part of its seventh annual “April in the D” marketing campaign, cable channel Fox Sports Detroit commissioned six life-sized bobblehead dolls of current Detroit pro athletes, and the figures will be on display outside Comerica Park for Opening Day before being relocated to other parts of downtown.
On display will be: Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer (later headed to lobby of the GM Renaissance Center), Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter (lobby of the GM Ren Cen, too), Pistons center Andre Drummond (Rosa Parks Transit Center), Pistons forward Josh Smith (Rivard Plaza/riverfront), Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (Campus Martius) and Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk (Grand Circus Park), the network said in a statement.
The bobbleheads were created jointly by two Detroit-based firms, The Parade Co. and The Display Group, Fox Sports Detroit said.
While some bobbleheads look nothing like their namesake, these are quite well done:
Last year, FOX Sports Detroit commissioned life-sized bobbleheads for then Piston, Brandon Knight and current Piston, Greg Monroe:
No word yet on who shoots a better percentage from the three-point line, Josh Smith or Josh Smith’s bobblehead.
