Game of the Night: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks

With March Madness taking over the world, the NBA still has a place in the sporting world tonight with a few games on the docket. One of the better match-ups tonight is the selection for game of the night. The Los Angeles Clippers travel to Texas to take on the Dallas Mavericks.

The Clippers lost a tough close game last night in New Orleans against Anthony Davis and crew, 98-96. The Clippers are vying for a top 3 seed in the Western conference and last nights doesn’t truly hurt, but it definitely doesn’t help them at the moment with the Houston Rockets breathing down their neck. A weird occurrence happened last night as the leader of the Clippers, Chris Paul, went a measly 0-12 from the field and finished with 2 points. Chris Paul had the worst night of his career, but the one bright spot and Clippers can take from it is that Jamal Crawford looked healthy and that is a huge plus for a team that has been battling injuries all season long with their roster. J.J. Redick is still out nursing a back injury and right now Doc Rivers’ main concern, aside from good seeding, is the health of his team. The Clippers had won 13 of their last 14 games before the lost last night against the Pelicans.

As for the Dallas Mavericks, they are looking to get into the playoffs, sitting tied with the Phoenix Suns for the 8th seed in the Western Conference. Dirk Nowitzki is looking like the old Dirk and surprisingly enough Monta Ellis has been a pretty good sidekick this season. Dirk lifted the team on his shoulders on Tuesday night in their overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, scoring 32 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds. The Mavericks are playing well, winning five of their last seven games and starting to click defensively at the right time. The most interesting thing to watch is how they finish down the stretch. They are also a team who needs to stay healthy and just maybe they can keep the pressure on the young Suns out in Phoenix to slide their way into that last playoff spot.

The Pick: I am going to pick the Clippers in this game tonight. I hope that the Clippers can get Chris Paul back on track against a less than average defender in Jose Calderon. The match-up to watch will be Dirk against Blake Griffin. Whoever gets the best production and effective points in this match-up their team will win. I believe Blake will be much more aggressive tonight against the Mavericks front line.
