Remember Jared Jeffries? The 6-foot-11 power forward who as drafted with the 11th pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2002 NBA Draft? He played for New York Knicks, Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers, too. Yup, he was a scout for the Denver Nuggets last year. Good. Now that we’re all caught up, let’s get to it.
Well, his basketball days seem to be over – for now, at least – but, apparently, Jeffries has always had a love for fishing. According to his website, he’d often spend his off-days on the water, fishing with his friends to see who could reel in the biggest catch. Now that he’s not spending all the hours in a day bouncing a ball on hardwood, he’s decided to take his obsession to the next level.
Here’s a teaser:
If that picture isn’t clear enough, he’s got his own television show called Modern Fishing, which involves him, you know, fishing. Below is an excerpt from the official site with some words from Jared Jeffries himself who can explain the whole premise of the show much better than I can:
During NBA games we’d run up and down the court as hard as we could using our skills to advance the basketball and score points. Trolling for fish is similar in the sense that I have to come up with a strategy and put my skills to the test, while putting some fresh fish in the icebox. After that I’m chillin’ on my back porch, cleaning fish and replaying the action in my mind just like after a game. If you like to fish, and have a love of sports too, then follow my adventures as I fish in the Caribbean and across the globe in search of challenges and glory. Game ON!!
The show will air at 12:30 PM on Monday’s, 12:00 PM on Thursday’s, 7:00 AM on Saturday’s and 3:30 PM on Sunday’s. And if you don’t have the Outdoor Channel, well, then you probably won’t be watching Modern Fishing. It’s that simple. But here’s a little taster for you if you’re into that kind of thing:
After a quick look at the site, it appears as though Jeffries knows what he is doing. I don’t know much about fishing – I know nothing – but anyone who can catch this behemoth must be pretty damn good:
Let’s be honest, that doesn’t actually look like a fish. If it is, then it must’ve taken steroids at some point in its life because it’s huge. I mean, is it just me, or does that kind of look like Jaws? Okay, I’m done. Just appreciate Jeffries’ masterful fish-catching ability. And tune in to his new show because it looks fun.
