The Brooklyn Nets are 8-1 in 2014. Let me repeat that; the NETS are 8-1 in 2014. In other words, the team that, just a few weeks ago could not buy a basket are now the league’s hottest squad. They host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday in the Game of the Night.

The Nets improved their home record to 11-9 on Tuesday night after defeating the Orlando Magic 101-90. Andray Blatche paced his team with 18 points off the bench, Mirza Teletovic added 14 while Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson each contributed with 13.

Deron Williams added 9 points and 9 assists off the bench.

“The first group did a good job to help us get out to a good start,” said Williams. “That third quarter that first group came out again and set the tone.”

Brooklyn has won 12 straight games when leading at halftime.

Johnson leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.3 points while Kevin Garnett and Williams lead in rebounds (6.8) and assists (6.8), respectively.

The Mavericks are 3-3 in their last six games and conclude a three-game road trip at Barclays Center on Friday night. The team fell to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night, who were playing without star Dirk Nowitzki. DeMar DeRozan dropped a career-high 40 points for the Raptors, while Monta Ellis paced the Mavs with 21 points and 6 assists, but committed 8 turnovers as well.

Nowitzki leads Dallas in points per game (21.1) while Shawn Marion grabs a team-high 6.9 boards and Ellis dishes out 6 assists per contest.

The Mavericks, while talented are a streaky squad and struggle on the road at times. The Nets are in a groove that should continue at home. Brooklyn over Dallas, 101-98
