The game was wild. The game was dramatic. But finally, after 53 grueling minutes of basketball, the Chicago Bulls defeated the Los Angeles Lakers after Taj Gibson‘s game-winning left-handed layup that sneaked around the contested arms of Pau Gasol to fall through the hoop.
D.J. Augustin‘s turnover on Chicago’s second-to-last possession allowed Los Angeles to charge down the floor and find Nick Young for the game-tying pull-up jumper. After almost another Augustin miscue, the Bulls called a timeout with just 0.9 seconds remaining in overtime. Mike Dunleavy inbounded the ball, squeezing it into Gibson. The forward caught defender Manny Harris out of position.
After receiving the ball, Gibson – almost immediately – rose up and got around Gasol, placing the ball in the basket. Game over. Bulls beat Lakers, 102-100.
Chicago improved to 8-2 in their last ten games and to 20-20 on the season while lowly Los Angeles fell to 16-26 with just three wins in their last ten contests.
Gibson finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds on the night.
