After knocking off the Miami Heat in surprising fashion on Friday night, the Sacramento Kings faced another tough test Sunday, as the took on the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite putting up a valiant effort, the Kings fell apart in the 4th quarter, ultimately losing 112-104.
It was a three man effort for Sacramento, with DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay and Isaiah Thomas scoring 80 of the team’s 104 points. Cousins lead the way, scoring 29 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while Gay added 24 and snatched 8 rebounds of his own, and Thomas finished with 27 points and 9 assists.
Two of the three man gang – Cousins and Gay – also combined for the Pass of the Night.
Late in the 3rd quarter, Sacramento was clinging to a one point lead, when Gay missed a shot in close. The ball was batted out, however, and found its way to Cousins at the top of the key.
The big man gathered the loose ball and began driving towards the basket, drawing the attention of the Spurs’ defense. Gay, who remained near the basket after the miss was left wide open in the hunt for the rebound. Spotting him, Cousins showed off his point guard skills, hitting him with a nifty drop off that Gay took and slammed home.
