Last night, the Portland Trail Blazers continued their midwestern road trip, traveling north to Minnesota to take on Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It was the Blazers’ fourth game in five days, and they were attempting to extend their winning streak to six games and keep ahold of the top spot in the Western Conference.
Love and the Wolves had other ideas however, and despite 36 points from Damian Lillard, the Blazers fell 120-109.
Leading the way for the Wolves, were Love (29 points, 15 rebounds, 9 assists), Nikola Pekovic (30 points, 9 rebounds), and Kevin Martin (22 points, 5 rebounds). Chipping in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists, was point guard Ricky Rubio.
Rubio also contributed the play of the night, with his assist to Kevin Martin that nabbed him his latest appearance on Pass of the Night.
Mid-way through the 1st quarter, the Blazers, in the form of Nic Batum, controlled the ball. Batum looked to make a post entry pass into Wes Matthews on the left block, however, Ricky Rubio read the play and snuck around Matthews, poking the ball away. Looking to start the fast break immediately, Rubio started dribbling and got his head up to see Kevin Martin leaking out ahead of the pack.
Unfortunately, Batum was in the way. But Rubio has magical powers, and spotted an opening – right between Batum’s legs. Rubio threaded the bounce pass perfectly through Batum’s legs, giving Martin an easy bucket.
