Report: Rudy Gay to be traded to the Kings

Well, just when we thought the biggest news of the night would be the return of the Black Mamba tonight against the Toronto Raptors in the Staples Center, he just got trumped. Rudy Gay, who has been in the trade rumors since the season started, has been traded to the Sacramento Kings according to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears. In addition to Gay, the Raptors are sending Aaron Gray and Quincy Ace to the Kings in exchange for John Salmons, Greivis Vasquez  Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes.

The trade allows the Raptors some financial flexibility going forward. It’s safe to say that the Raptors are looking to take their chances in next year’s NBA Draft in hopes of landing one of the top picks and top freshman. It has been no secret that new Raptors GM, Masai Ujiri, is looking to place his own imprint on the team and clean house according to a number of reports. As it seems, the Raptors are not afraid to pull the trigger on a deal if it makes sense going forward for the long haul, but you have to wonder how long the fan base will take losing. If their stars align in June, they might be able to land the hometown kid and potential savior to their franchise – Andrew Wiggins.

As for the Kings, it brings a whole different and interesting dynamic into the equation. After trading for Derrick Williams a few weeks ago adding another young body to their core, they now have a guy in Gay, who could possibly help them in their efforts to be competitive but also could be used in another trade down the line (just a hunch). DeMarcus Cousins, is the face of the franchise in Sac-Town, but the major question is, how will him and Gay get along? Their styles are very different, but Gay is not a great shooter from the outside. It seems that the Kings will probably play Gay at the power forward spot to stretch the floor, which would clear more space for Cousins to operate and be effective. With Gay on the floor, you have to hold him accountable, because if he gets hot he can make you pay for leaving him open.

This NBA season has been filled with great things so far, and if this trade is any indication on how its going to shape up, I am looking forward to seeing it all play out.
