Delonte West Set To Play In China

Delonte West’s basketball journey has been a strange one to say the least. Now, it seems, his path will take him across the world to China as he continues to look for a way back into the NBA.

The last time we saw West in the Association, he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks. In 2011-2012, West played 44 games after joining the team in December, averaging just about 10 points and 3 assists a night. Just before the start of last year, however, the Mavericks decided to part ways West, waving him before they had even played a regular season game.

From there, West had a short stint in the D-League with the Texas Legands. But since then, West has been without a basketball home – until now. Comcast Sport Net Northwest’s Chris Haynes is reporting that West has agreed to deal to play over in China.

“Free agent guard Delonte West has signed a one-year deal with Fujian Xunxing of China, a source informed CSNNW.com.

West, 30, will have the opportunity to latch onto an NBA team once the Chinese Basketball Association’s season concludes in February.

The veteran was eager to prove to NBA teams that he was capable of taking a contending team to the next level. Though, no one was willing to offer a guaranteed deal to his liking. Playing in China will allow NBA personnel to observe his improvements on and off the court.”

Despite the baggage and history that West brings along with him, he should get another chance. Hard as it is to believe, West is still only 30 years old. All it would take for us to see West back in the league is a solid showing in China and a team in need of a guard late in the season.
