As we are closing in on training camp and the beginning of the season, let’s take a moment to wish one of the NBA’s biggest names, Kevin Durant, a happy birthday. The 25-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder superstar will be entering his seventh year in the league. He holds career averages of 26.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 1.3 SPG, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field.

Durant led his team to the NBA Finals two seasons ago, but fell to the Miami Heat in five games. This past season the Thunder were the Western Conference’s one seed, and after beating the Houston Rockets in the first round, came up short against the Memphis Grizzlies with a Russell Westbrook-less Oklahoma City squad. His career playoff averages include 28.6 PPG, 8.0 RPG and 1.1 SPG, shooting 46 percent from the field in the process.

Among his numerous achievements and awards, the 6’9 forward was crowned Rookie of the Year in 2008, has led the NBA in scoring three times and is a four-time All-Star.

With a healthy and young roster, the Thunder are once again expected to contend for a title. Their finish of 60-22 last season was not a fluke and with a projected starting lineup of Westbrook, Thabo Sefolosha, Durant, Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins, the rest of the Western Conference should not sleep on them.
