The Clippers were so close to beating the defending champions. If you watched the second half of last night’s game, there were times where the Clippers were close to running away with the game. But they could never push the lead out to a comfortable margin, and the Lakers kept hanging around. That proved to be costly, as even with a five-point lead with a minute to go, the Clippers were unable to hold off a Laker rally, which culminated in a big play by Derek Fisher at the buzzer.
Here’s a look at the video:
I mean, how close was that? We all thought Kobe Bryant would get the ball after Phil Jackson called the timeout with three seconds left, but Kobe wasn’t open, and Fisher simply had to make something happen quickly.
This has to be a very deflating loss for a team that has struggled all season. This was THE game that could have gotten the Clippers on the right track. They proved last night that they are not as bad as their record shows, and this will be a tough one to take.
But did we really expect anything less from the defending champions?
